Overview
The registry had been producing boundary maps by field teams walking parcels with handheld GPS, which took eleven days for the 5,600-hectare block and left gaps where vegetation obscured the boundary markers. An RTK-fixed mapping platform flown in a systematic grid produced a base layer with direct georeferencing accuracy, and boundary interpretation was then carried out as an overlay on the orthomosaic rather than by walking the line. The block was captured in two flying days. Positional accuracy was checked against 34 known survey monuments and came out at 2.1 centimetres horizontal root-mean-square error, which is what allowed the output to be adopted for boundary dispute resolution. The registry’s constraint was not flight time but data handling: the orthomosaic from 5,600 hectares is about 340 gigabytes, and the workflow for detecting and digitising the boundary markers from that imagery became the real deliverable.
