Overview
At commissioning, the client wanted the defect list before the contractor handover, because thermal anomalies found after acceptance are far harder to attribute and far more expensive to fix. A thermal-equipped platform flew a grid pattern over the array at a 4.5-metre ground sample distance, which resolves individual module strings rather than broad panels. The survey produced 214 anomalous strings, of which 187 were confirmed on the ground as either cracked cells, faulty bypass diodes or bad connectors, and the remaining 27 were attributed to reflection from surrounding structures and filtered out. Fixing those defects before handover rather than after saved the client an estimated 340,000 euros in re-inspection and mobilisation costs.
